John Denver: Blow Up Your TV (Spanish Pipe Dream) by Prine

I done blew up my tv!!

Not really, but I did cancel my satellite subscription.  So long, DirecTv!!

this has been a long time coming.  first, there is very little in quality programming..... I was really only following 4 programs.  I stopped really paying attention to television shows, with the exception of the 4 or 5 I really watched.  It was all just so much background noise.

And then I started addictively watching reruns of the Law & Order franchise and CSI:Miami on a particular cable channel.  This particular channel shows the above mentioned programs on the weekends and some week nights.  The rest of the time they show some particularly distasteful, trashy "reality" shows.  The commercials for those "reality" shows were so extremely off-putting to me, that it pushed me over the edge ---from tv addict to tv hater.

no, I didn't really blow up my tv,.... I have 4 boxes of dvds.... 6 complete series, 7 partial series, 15 single seasons of television series, and about 100 movies.  At the rate I have been watching the dvds, that should last me for about 3 years!

....cancelled subscriptions to paper reading materials many years ago..... (pack rat tendencies, ya know)

So,  Blow up your TV, throw away your paper, go to the country, build you a home.

Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches, try and find Jesus on your own.!!!!

I would love to  go to the country, build me a home, plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches,.... and I think Jesus found me -because most of the time I feel 'saved'.

Lyrics
She was a levelheaded dancer on the road to alcohol,
I was just a soldier on my way to Montreal.
Well, she pressed her chest against me about the time the jukebox broke.
She gave me a peck on the back of the neck, and these are the words she spoke.
Blow up your TV, throw away your paper, go to the country, build you a home.
Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches, try and find Jesus on your own.
I sat there at the table, and I acted real naive.
Cause I knew that topless lady, she had something up her sleeve.
She danced around the room awhile and she did the hoochy coo.
Yeah, singing a song all night long, telling me what to do.
Blow up your TV, throw away your paper, go to the country, build you a home.
Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches, try and find Jesus on your own.
Well, I was young and hungry, and about to leave that place.
Just as I was going. she looked me in the face.
I said "You must know the answer, " she said "No, but I'll give it a try."
To this day we've been living our way, here is the reason why.
We blew up your TV, threw away your paper, went to the country, build us a home.
Had a lot of children, fed 'em on peaches, they all found Jesus on their own.
